- How do I get started?
If you are ready to sign up, register today!
There is no application process for the Tax Practitioners Institute, and
you do not need to be admitted to the University.

- Do I need to go through the admissions process at Portland State?
You do not need to be admitted to Portland State University
to take part in the Tax Practitioners’ Institute.
- How do I register?
There are five easy ways to register:
Online
Use Visa/MasterCard. Select location, then click on Register
Online. Note: Group discount is not available online.
Phone
Call during our office hours, 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, with Visa/MasterCard
information, in Portland at 503-725-4832, or toll-free at 1-800-547-8887, press
0 for operator, then ask for extension 4832.
Fax
Fax a completed registration form
with credit card information to 503-725-5585.
Mail
Mail a completed registration form)
and check/money order/purchase order, payable to Portland State University, to: Tax Practitioners Institute, Professional Development Center, Portland State University, PO Box 1491, Portland, OR 97207-1491.
In person
Visit the Professional Development Center during our office hours, 8am-5pm,
Monday through Friday. Our address is 1515 SW 5th Avenue, Suite 1050,
in Portland, Oregon.
- My confirmation card says
“noncredit.” Will I be able to use the hours for my certification?
“Noncredit” refers to non-academic credit.
Because we are university affiliated, we are required to state that our classes are
“noncredit.” You will receive Continuing Education hours.
- How many Continuing Education
hours will I receive?
Participants can receive up to 16 Continuing Education
Hours (CE/CPE) from Oregon and Washington State Boards of Accountancy (CPAs, LPAs), Oregon
State Board of Tax Practitioners (LTCs, LTPs), and U.S. Internal Revenue Service (FEAs).
- Can I earn Ethics credit?
We are not currently offering Ethics credit for CPAs or EAs.
- Can I purchase a RIA Federal Tax Handbook?
Yes. You can order it when you register or contact Lola
Bichler at:
bichlerl@pdx.edu.
- What should I do in case of inclement weather?
All Professional Development Center courses and seminars
are canceled when Portland State is officially closed due to weather. Please contact the
office at 503-725-4820 for instructions on cancellations and make-up sessions. To determine
if the campus will be closed, call 503-725-3000 (Portland State Information Line) or listen
to your local radio news station.
- What is the refund policy?
Cancellation notice may be given by phone, but all refund
requests must be made in writing before a refund is issued. Please allow approximately four
to six weeks for processing.
- Notification received five or more business days before start date: full refund
- 1-4 business days before start date: full refund less $25 processing fee
- On or after course start date: no refund
