The following newsletter is the third in a series introducing the instructors and coursework of the newly created Healthcare Management Certificate.

Why Care about Cultural Competency in Your Organization

Many of you have called or emailed me to chat about the upcoming Culturally Competent Patient-Centered Care course wondering how to present this to your manager as relevant to your professional development and performance at work.

I can tell by your comments that you understand why intrinsically, but I thought it might be helpful to offer you three quick points for discussion:

  • Your patient and customer demographics are changing dramatically day-by-day, not to mention your fellow colleagues,
  • Patients will delay seeking care when they do not feel comfortable in your environment. When they finally do come, their treatment will cost much more,
  • No matter what company you work for, you probably have an initiative to increase market share. You will be more prepared to implement that strategy after taking this course.

Try these out on your boss or share them with your colleagues and take Dr. James Mason's course together. You will not be disappointed.

In fact, Jim Kronenberg, former executive director of the Oregon Medical Association says Mason is an "Impressive speaker" with a "very charismatic" delivery. Mason will delight you with stories and inform you with powerful tools to use when addressing culturally competency issues. -- Lori Silverman, Program Manager

The class starts sooner than you think. Tuesday, January 9th (6 pm - 9pm)
