We’re All Connected
Connecting higher education to the broader community is a core value at Portland State University and the School of Extended Studies.
The Professional Development Center:
- Develops programs, certificates, and courses which meet demonstrated needs in the business community
- Trains professionals to meet those needs and increase workforce effectiveness
- Recruits instructors from the local community with demonstrated experience and hands-on ability to share their knowledge
- Initiates student-community projects that support such groups as Portland Center Stage and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce
- Creates a sense of community beyond the classroom, keeping students, instructors, and program leaders connected well beyond a single course or certificate program
- Includes elements of sustainability throughout the department’s curricula
