The Six Sigma Black Belt Certificate series consists of six additional days of classroom plus a one-day project reporting session once completing the Green Belt series or its equivalent. They will take place the Monday and Tuesday beginning on June 30 and July 1, 2008 thru July 15 with the one-day reporting session on Monday September 8, 2008.

The Black Belt series is open to anyone who has earned their Green Belt Certificate at PSU or the equivalent and is interested in adding to their Six Sigma skills to increase the ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of an organization’s effectiveness working independently, leading project teams and coaching others in the effective application of Six Sigma methods.

At the completion of the Black Belt classes, participants will have the basic and advanced Six Sigma skills to make them one of their organizations most valued associates. Participants aspiring to earn a Black Belt certificate complete a project that they will design to improve the effectiveness --increased revenues, profits, productivity or quality -- of processes in their place of work.

  • Basic Statistics, Intro to Root Cause Analysis
  • Individuals (Xi/MR) and Means (Xbar/ R) Control Charts
  • Process and Quality Control Plans, Problem Solving and Continuous Process Improvement
  • Control charting attributes, Process Capability and Performance Measurement
  • Measurement Reliability -- Gauge R&R and Measurement Process Optimization and Control
  • Team Dynamics
  • Introduction to Project Management for Six Sigma Projects
  • DOE 2 – 2-level factorial designs, full and fractional designs, response surface designs
  • EWMA control charts
  • Hypothesis Testing
  • Regression Analysis
  • Project Reporting and Certification

Candidates enrolling for a full 16 day Six Sigma Black Belt training will also receive

  • Design Expert Software Version 7 for Design of Experiments from Stat-Ease, Inc. -- six-month temporary license.
  • Statgraphics Centurion XV Professional Edition from StatPoint, Inc. -- twelve-month temporary license.
